18 players will compete for 5 state titles

March 3, 2010 (MERIDIAN, ID) - The Idaho Select program will once again be represented very well at the 2010 Boys State Tournament with 18 players competing for 5 state titles. All of the following players played at least three tournaments for Idaho select in the spring or summer of 2009. This is the second straight year that 18 players from the program will be competing in the state tournament.

The players include: McKay Cannon (Shelley, 3A), Matt Clark (Skyview, 4A), Austin DeSilvia (Bishop Kelly, 4A), Daved Gilmor (Eagle, 5A), Jake Hardee (Bishop Kelly, 4A), Kriff Jensen (Firth, 2A), Taylor Kelly (Eagle, 5A), Damon Leitch (Nezperce, 1AD2), Aaron Maffey (Centennial, 5A), Joey Nebeker (Melba, 2A), Sy Nebeker (Melba, 2A), Jack Nygaard (Kamiah, 2A), Terrell Rowe (Skyview, 4A), Ryan Skurdal (Rocky Mountain, 5A), Craig Spjute (Borah, 5A), Mac Stannard (Moscow, 4A), Hans Steinbrenner (Centennial, 5A), David Trompke (Rocky Mountain, 5A)

Returning to the state tournament this year are Clark, DeSilvia, Hardee, Jensen, Kelly, Leitch, both Nebekers, Rowe and Spjute. Clark and Rowe are defending state titles for Skyview and Jensen is trying to make it four straight championships for Firth. Leitch was part of a third place Nezperce team while Kelly and the Nebekers helped Eagle and Melba to a Consolation wins, respectively. Kriff was a first team all-state selection. Spjute and Clark were all-state second team selections.

The last two years, Idaho Select players have been the top performers in the state tournament and through out the year. In 2008, Eagle's Mitch Bruneel was selected as the Gatorade Player of the Year. Last year, Lewiston's Ryan Young and Shelley's Tanner Higham were chosen as the state Players of the Year.
